APARTMENT RENOVATION – AFTER
This modernist apartment was built in the 1950’s and was considered very forward and modern for it’s time. A renovation in the mid 80’s had covered up much of it’s original charm and what remained had deteriorated beyond repair. A major update was required!
BEFORE:
Some of the work was cosmetic. The original apartment was filled to the brim with furniture and felt very cluttered:
AFTER:
Stripping away the layers made room for a dining area and gave the apartment some much needed breathing room:
The renovation took both the kitchen and the bathroom to the studs as nothing in either space could be salvaged. This also helped to address certain issues such as the fact that there was only one plug in the kitchen. A new electrical panel had to be installed (with a permit) and the kitchen was rewired for contemporary needs.

In a nod to the history of the building, the floor was kept as it was while the colors and materials used in the rebuilt kitchen were chosen to reflect the apartment’s original forward design.
